My Story

I was born in Finland, and from an early age, I knew I was destined to become a hair designer. At six, I started braiding hair for my entire dance group, realizing that styling hair came naturally to me. Growing up, I always knew that my small Finnish town, Lahti, wouldn’t be my final destination. I had a burning desire to explore the world and live abroad, just as I had a passion for working with hair.

At 16, I began studying hairdressing, and by 18, I took a leap of faith and moved to London. There, I immersed myself in the world of hair and fashion for six years. Later, I transitioned to film work, which led me to spend another six years living in Mexico City. In the film industry, my main interests were special effects makeup, prosthetics, and wig making. I had the opportunity to work on major Hollywood film projects, as Mexico offered a great location for shoots.

In addition to hairdressing, I studied makeup artistry at the London College of Fashion. I also pursued a year-long foundation program in visual arts at Central Saint Martins in London, and at the Free Art School in Helsinki, I studied painting. Over the years, I’ve worked as a hair and makeup artist for TV, film, and fashion productions in both Mexico and London. I’ve exhibited my art in various galleries and concept stores, and for eight years, I owned a hair salon with an art gallery in Helsinki.

Despite living in big cities and working in fashion, art, and film, I have always been deeply connected to nature. For me, the most meaningful aspect of life is being in harmony with the natural world. Over time, the cosmetic industry began to feel too superficial, even though I love cutting and styling hair. So, in 2019, I completed training to become a certified ecological hairdresser. There, I learned the latest ecological practices, such as coloring with plants, studied herbs, and adopted a holistic approach to cutting hair. Ecological thinking in the hair industry is a new frontier, and I’ve continued to develop in this area, exploring not only ingredients but also how to minimize salon waste. One of my proudest accomplishments in this field is the establishment of Hiukka Hyvä (www.hiukkahyva.fi or hiukka.de), the first hair recycling movement in the Nordic countries, in 2021. Hiukka Hyvä is a non-profit organization that collects hair waste from salons, develops products, and raises awareness about the possibilities this fiber holds for future use.

Ecological awareness didn’t just influence my work as a hairdresser; it also led me to question why I was using toxic materials like oil and acrylic paints. I realized that creating more non-biodegradable products in a world already overflowing with materials didn’t align with my values. As a result, I transitioned from oil paints to natural fibers, and my artwork evolved into environmental art.

Due to family circumstances, I now operate between Finland, Berlin, and Mexico City, offering my hair services and sharing  hair recycling knowledge through art and seminars globally.

Welcome to my world of holistic, ecological hair care and artistic expression.
